Potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, avocado... there's such a variety of food that can be mashed for different purposes. This masher is designed with a rotation mechanism to help mash different food and achieve different textures with just one tool.

Market Research

The design direction is pointed out by a mapping of existing products on the market. We found that there is a market opening for masher that are more affordable but can handle a bigger variety of food.

Ideation

To open up the possibilities, I started with abstract experiments with the act of mashing. The changing pattern with two forks caught my attention, and I further developed the mechanism through sketches and prototypes. The pattern is also studied to ensure that there are effective changes in the pattern while rotating.

Design Outcome

The final design has two main parts. They can be taken apart for easy cleaning.
