Living creatures adapt to their environment to maximize energy efficiency. So can products. Sunspot is a system that generates unique aerial plant holders according to the user's latitude and window direction.





Analysis

The sunlight directions are put in as a set of vectors for each location. Then they are applied as forces to a generic hemisphere to form a surface that maximizes the sunlight coverage throughout the year. Similarly, structures for the aerial plants are distributed according to sunlight coverage.






Simulation

The gifs below show the changes happening from different inputs. Besides the location and window direction, users can also control the size of the pot and hole size for the plants.
